What’s your role and how long have you been at Innovative?
I started here one month after I graduated with my undergrad. My current role is vice president, and it is my *checks LinkedIn profile* fifth position with our company since I’ve been with Innovative for 19 years in June. (To calculate my years with Innovative, I take my oldest child’s age and add 2 years.)
What’s your favorite memory from Innovative?
When Liz sneakily observed my favorite color, plus that my hands were often cold in the office and I prefer to wear natural fibers, so she could knit and gift thoughtful orange merino fingerless gloves to me.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
My role and responsibilities are basically built around my strengths — both things that come more naturally to me, but also skills that I’ve worked really hard to develop. And I work the hardest at “people-ing.”
When you’re not working, what can you be found doing?
I spend most of my free time walking with my spouse and our dog, chilling with my kiddos, going on dates with my friends to coffeehouses and museums, organizing and decorating my house, or journaling and reading with ANC headphones that are playing bilateral white noise. Insight Timer app FTW.
What movie, television or book character represents you the best?
Maybe like if Leslie Knope and Wednesday Addams merged?
What’s a song you currently have on repeat?
I’m excited about Katie Pruitt’s upcoming sophomore album, so I’ve been re-listening to Expectations. It’s a no-skip album for me, but the title track is like Fleetwood Mac meets Miley Cyrus and immediately has me imagining that I’m headlining an acoustic set in a small local venue. I regularly put on live concert tours in my car and kitchen.
What are some of your favorites (show, movie, book, musical artist, game, etc.)?
RuPaul’s Drag Race. Sort Of on Max. Any of Katherine May’s writings. Political podcasts (U.S. political analysis is my chess). Music by Katie Pruitt, Brandi Carlile, Rilo Kiley, Ben Folds, Fiona Apple and Harvey Danger. I have a great playlist of female-lead singles primarily from the ’80s-’90s for my youngest and I to rock out together. I don’t have a comfort show or film and prefer to watch media one time, OCCASIONALLY twice.
“There’s no one quite like Shannon. She is an inspiring, service-oriented leader and mentor, an Excel virtuoso, and one of the kindest and funniest people I know. Given enough time and enough tea, she can help you solve any problem you throw at her. I know she’s brought out the best in me, and I try to follow her example every day.”
