What’s your role and how long have you been at Innovative?
I’m an editor/writer here at Innovative. I started in February of 2023, so I’m nearing my two-year anniversary.
What’s your favorite memory from Innovative?
Our manager, Liz, does a great job of creating space for us to bond and build our synergy. Even though we’re spread across the country, our team works together better than I have seen in any of my past offices. Because of that, I have a lot of warm memories with my team, from making mood boards for each other, playing quiz games or awarding superlatives at the end of the year.
My team is the best part of the job, and I’m so lucky to have such kind, creative and talented people surrounding me.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
It can get pretty intense during our busier periods — sometimes you’re managing eight or more projects at once. You have to keep so many plates spinning to keep your projects moving through production smoothly, which involves staying in touch with a lot of people across departments, as well as your client.
I definitely take a lot of notes and leave myself a lot of reminders to make sure my head stays screwed on straight.
When you’re not working, what can you be found doing?
I’m a bit of a homebody! Most of my hobbies keep me curled up on the couch — whether that’s reading a thriller, writing a letter to a pen pal, drawing, or crocheting. I tend to have a little pile of things with me, so whenever the mood strikes, I can pull out a project and get working.
But since bringing home our deaf rescue dog, my fiancé and I have been pretty busy chasing after her.
What movie, television or book character represents you the best?
I think Ted Lasso from the Apple TV show of the same name is a pretty strong representation of me. In the show, he’s brought on as coach because of a silly video of him dancing with his team after a win. Despite his goofy nature, his coaching skills are undeniable and he has a special knack for showing people he cares. He takes his role seriously but never at the expense of his team or his values. He centers building relationships, being his authentic self, and encouraging vulnerability and growth.
On our team, we like to joke that I’m the personality hire. Sure, I’m detail-oriented, organized, and have a keen eye for editing — but at the end of the day, I’d bet any of my teammates thinks of me first as the one making goofy faces in the production meeting or sending people sticker-covered snail mail. To me, it’s all about the relationships we make and being there for my team and my clients.
What’s a song you currently have on repeat?
S P E Y S I D E by Bon Iver
What are some of your favorites (show, movie, book, musical artist, game, etc.)?
This question doesn’t feel fair — I could go on for days! But I’ll try to limit myself.
Shows: Midnight Mass, Andor, and Castlevania
Movies: Knives Out (2019), Silence of the Lambs (1991) and Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)
Books: Blood Over Bright Haven was my book of the year this year
Musical artist: The Talking Heads has to be one of my all-time favorite bands, and it’s very nostalgic for me, since I used to jam out with my dad to their songs as a kid.
Game: The Pokémon trading card game, Animal Crossing, and Stardew Valley
“Rae is an outstanding human being both professionally and personally. She works very hard to provide her clients top-notch service, and she keeps our Slack social channel entertained with updates about her pets and the newest additions to her sticker collection. She is very kind and the sweetest bean, and if I need a pick-me-up I always message Rae. We are very lucky to have her on our team.”
