What’s your role and how long have you been at Innovative?
I am a designer and have been at Innovative for a little over four months.
What’s your favorite memory from Innovative?
I have really had fun organizing and being part of the sticker and ephemera exchange group, where we mail each other a variety of items in a Secret Santa-type format. It’s been really nice having this more personal exchange with my co-workers that live all across the U.S.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
Getting familiar with each product as I design it for the first time. There are so many! But I really love the variety and challenge each one presents.
When you’re not working, what can you be found doing?
Playing tennis, watching tennis or any other racquet sport; gardening; reading up on the latest Korean skincare reviews; hanging out with my family; and some sort of creative activity like drawing. I enjoy collage and watercolor painting, or crafting something. Right now, I’ve taken up learning and making Chinese knot bracelets. There is a huge variety of styles, and they are all so beautiful.
What movie, television or book character represents you the best?
Edna Pontellier from Kate Chopin’s The Awakening maybe doesn’t represent me exactly but has certainly had an influence on me from a young age. I think I have a similar personality to Aubrey Plaza/April from Parks & Recreation.
What’s a song you currently have on repeat?
I’ve had music from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom playing in the background while I work for the last couple of days. It’s very nostalgic, as I was fully absorbed in both of those worlds for a good period of time. And the music is so good!
What are some of your favorites (show, movie, book, musical artist, game, etc.)?
Shows: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Fleabag, The Gilded Age, Downton Abbey, Broadchurch, I’ve been watching a lot of K-dramas recently as well.
Movies: Howl’s Moving Castle, Pride and Prejudice, Nacho Libre
Game: Heroes of the Storm
“Sommer’s graphic design and web development skills are impressive and very creative. She’s a determined and accomplished team member who I’ve really enjoyed working with this year!”
