What’s your role and how long have you been at Innovative?
I’m an Editorial Project Coordinator, meaning I shepherd editorial content through the production process for associations and organizations (from concept to a completed magazine or directory). I’ve been working at Innovative for a little over two years now.
What’s your favorite memory from Innovative?
I don’t know if I have a single favorite memory. My experience at Innovative has been a culmination of small moments that build on one another. I love how Vallen has been crocheting and sharing Woobles [small stuffed animals] to decorate her desk, how Rae made everyone personalized icons for Asana, how Liz and Catherine have made so many fun presentations (the most prominent one I can remember is the superlatives). The production meeting bingo game is hilarious! I just love how everyone is so collaborative, creative and supportive, so to pick one memory would feel like a disservice.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
The most challenging part of my job is the number of plates we have to keep spinning. We keep dozens of projects on time and on track through the production process and often have a handful of projects at different stages all at one time. It’s challenging but rewarding for each project we complete.
When you’re not working, what can you be found doing?
When I’m not working, I’m either writing (I’m currently working on a book series) or I’m playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends for fun and inspiration.
What movie, television or book character represents you the best?
I’d have to say Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson and the Olympians best represents me. She’s very smart, cunning and confident and is always the first one to get the group out of a bind.
What’s a song you currently have on repeat?
I’ve been listening to Down with the Wolves by The Score on repeat. It feels very fitting for the difficulties and anxieties of the world today and acts as a rebellious piece in the face of it all.
What are some of your favorites (show, movie, book, musical artist, game, etc.)?
Oh boy, where to start! My favorite book series would have to be Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It’s very nostalgic for me, and I love the characters and plot! I’ve been listening to EPIC the Musical by Jorge Rivera-Herrans frequently and love the complexity and replayability of the songs. For video games, I’ve played through Metaphor Refantazio and Persona 5 and found those very engaging, both in their gameplay and in the in-depth worldbuilding. I’ve also listened to a lot of Dimension 20 (a D&D group) and have found many of their series (particularly A Crown of Candy) the perfect mixture of depth and hilarity!
“Emily started at IP right around the same time I did, so it’s always felt like we’re going through this journey together — from learning our production process and meeting the team all the way to handling our first client calls, Emily and I have always been in sync. We’ve spent a lot of time together troubleshooting, sharing tips, asking silly questions and connecting as friends.
Emily is a tremendous teammate. She always goes out of her way to help, whether it is proofreading, helping with ad processing or writing articles. She manages her own clients and still makes time to help the entire team with their to-do lists. Whenever someone needs help, Emily is the first to step up.”
