What’s your role and how long have you been at Innovative?
I’m the senior editor, and I have been at Innovative for more than five years.
What’s your favorite memory from Innovative?
There are so many! I enjoy our monthly editor meetings, where we participate in fun activities like playing Jackbox Games and making presentations about our interests. It’s been a while, but all the editors participated in a department-wide mood board, which ended up being a lot of fun. We all picked various things that reminded us of the different editors and assembled them into a presentation — I remember we were each assigned a different Dungeons and Dragons class, a library aesthetic and even planners that matched our vibes. Having opportunities to express ourselves and get to know our co-workers on a more personal level is so much fun, and it really builds our professional repertoire as well.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
Keeping all my clients and their projects organized is very challenging. Some books might be getting ready for the printer, while some might be in the beginning stages of being proofread and designed. It’s a lot to juggle and can get overwhelming, but I have a great team to help keep my head above water.
When you’re not working, what can you be found doing?
I enjoy reading, writing, journaling, listening to music and going on walks around my neighborhood. I’m also obsessed with plants. It’s warm outside, so it’s the perfect time to take my plants out and repot them and get my hands dirty. On top of that, I also just brought home a new addition to my family — Lyra, a very talkative cat with an affinity for waking me up at odd hours to play with her — so when I’m not doing my hobbies, I’m snuggling with her.
On the more exciting side of things, I enjoy traveling. My friend and I just went to Iceland in March, and it was absolutely beautiful. I’d love for my next trip to be to Ireland, Scotland and England!
What movie, television or book character represents you the best?
Sometimes I feel like Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender — driven by my emotions and deeply loyal to my loved ones. Other times I feel like David from Schitt’s Creek — sarcastic and keeping others on their toes with my dry sense of humor.
What’s a song you currently have on repeat?
“Our Love” by Curtis Harding and Jazmine Sullivan from Arcane for the better part of 2025.
What are some of your favorites (show, movie, book, musical artist, game, etc.)?
My favorites are all over the place, get ready. *cracks knuckles*
Supernatural (the first five seasons), Game of Thrones, Parks and Recreation, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Arcane are my favorite shows.
Movies are The Mummy, Moulin Rouge! and The Mask of Zorro.Yes, I realize I’m really into nostalgic period romances/adventures.
Our Innovative book club wrapped up 2024 with Blood Over Bright Haven, which is one of my newest favorites. I’ve also been rereading The Hunger Games and its prequels — I’ve never cried harder at a book than I did Sunrise on the Reaping. Suzanne Collins is a genius.
Hozier, Fall Out Boy, and Florence + the Machine are my favorite current artists, but Queen holds a special place in my heart as well.
And to top it off, Red Dead Redemption 2 is my favorite game. Sometimes you just need to rob a bank or two in the Old West to let off some steam.
“Our team would simply not survive without Drew. Her organization skills are unmatched and she’s somehow able to juggle all of her projects while still making time to offer advice and support our team. Drew has also become one of my close friends. She’s the person to go to for TV recs, coffee/bookstore hangouts, and to just vent about life. Drew is the best!”
